Description
Charcoal grey panel made from wood fibre (refer to the technical characteristics). This construction has multiple benefits :
  • the edges can be machined like for solid wood,
  • in case of a cut or scratch, a simple sanding can repair the defects,
  • average resistance of 30% greater than traditional MDF.
These panels are also water-repellent.
Several shades of colours can be present on the panel. This is not a product non-compliance, but instead is an integral part of the specificities of this integrally dyed MDF, made from natural materials.
Note: for the 8 mm thickness, only edges C2-1 and C4-1 are available.

Other technical characteristics
Valchromat E05 is a mass-dyed wood fiber panel with formaldehyde emission ≤ 0.05 ppm.
The fibers are impregnated with organic dyes and chemically bonded to each other by a special resin which gives Valchromat unique physico-mechanical characteristics.
Valchromat is an MDF.HLS, according to the EN 622-5 standard.
The Valchromat panel, due to the use of organic dyes and the natural variation in the color of the wood, has differences in hue. This variation can be observed on the same face, between faces of the same panel, between different productions or thicknesses.
Valchromat is a water-repellent panel, supplied unfinished, in which the application of varnish, wax or oil is essential.
Whenever the panel is used in wet areas, such as kitchen worktops and bathrooms, it should be protected with varnish and the faces and fields should be well sealed.
The Valchromat panel should not be used in areas where there is direct contact with water, such as kitchen worktop sink cutouts and shower cubicles.
The Valchromat panel must be applied with a finish, in order to protect the surface, maintaining its natural appearance.
The finish can be done with varnishes, waxes or oils.
Any suitable varnish for wood can be applied over Valchromat. Two-component acrylic varnishes are widely used, as they do not yellow over time. When the finish is made with varnish, the first layer to be applied is a primer, also called "insulator" or "pore filler". After the first layer has dried, the surfaces are sanded with a fine grain of 320, in order to eliminate the raised pores of the wood. Then, a finishing varnish is applied in one or two coats, depending on the manufacturer's prescription. Between coats, surfaces are sanded with 320 fine grit. It is recommended that the applied primer and clearcoat be from the same manufacturer so that there is no incompatibility between them.
Waxes or oils are usually applied in a single coat to previously prepared surfaces. These types of finishes should not be applied to panels that will be installed in humid environments, such as kitchens and bathrooms. Avoid linseed oil type oils.

Care Advice
Gluing:
to glue multiple pieces of MDF to each other, we recommend following the instructions below:
1. Sanding at 80 grain to facilitate adherence and remove any paraffin coat present
2. WATER-REPELLENT white glue (mandatory, a normal white glue will not be as effective)
3. Clamp for 24 hours (instead of the usual 7-8 hours, otherwise there is a risk of it coming loose)
Finishes:
Valchromat panels are compatible with varnish or oil finishes.
1. do not use a hard base,
2. do not use a linseed oil-based finish.
